EMC Breaks Through to Win Company of the Year for SMB Network Storage; For the Fifth Consecutive Year EMC Takes Top Honors in Enterprise Network Storage and Backup & Recovery Software Categories

Orlando, Florida - August 12 EMC Corporation (NYSE) today announced that for the first time it was named Company of the Year in the small- and medium-sized businesses (SMB) Network Storage category and for the fifth consecutive year named Company of the Year in the Enterprise Network Storage and Backup & Recovery Software categories of the prestigious 2011 CRN Annual Report Card (ARC). The CRN Annual Report Card serves as a definitive benchmark of relationships between vendors and channel partners and maintains the industry standard for measuring excellence within the channel community. EMC accepted the awards at a ceremony on Thursday, August 11 during the XChange Americas conference in Denver, CO.

The Everything Channel ARC research team surveyed more than 3600 solution providers across 21 categories to evaluate the satisfaction they have with vendor products, support, and channel programs. The "Company of the Year" recognition is given to a vendor that scores the highest marks for each of the award sub-categories – Product Innovation, Support, and Partnership.

EMC's first-ever inclusion and recognition as Company of the Year in the SMB Network Storage category is the direct result of the strategy it executed during the past year to expand its SMB market presence. In January 2011, EMC announced an Authorized Reseller category that enables resellers of any size to easily become EMC partners. It also announced the EMC® VNXe® – the world's simplest, most efficient, and affordable unified storage system. With an entry price of under $10,000 (USD), the VNXe enables partners to address the demand for storage in the SMB market with breakthrough simplicity while allowing them to easily bundle the system into comprehensive, differentiated solutions and services. During the past year, EMC made several enhancements to the EMC Velocity™ Solution Provider Program including new opportunities for EMC reselling partners to accelerate revenue, increase profitability, differentiate their business in the marketplace, and provide more value to customers through four new Velocity Specialties: Consolidate, Advanced Consolidate, Backup and Recovery, and Governance and Archive. It also introduced a number of new, industry-leading enterprise storage systems and backup and recovery products that enable partners to solve their customers' unique IT challenges, manage rapid data growth, and accelerate their journey to the cloud.

"This is a well deserved honor," said Brian McCarthy, President & CTO of Cloud Caboodle, Inc. (PBT), an EMC Velocity Partner and IT solutions and professional services provider. "The EMC VNXe has made it easier than ever for Cloud Caboodle to deliver industry leading technology to our SMB customers. EMC has also provided us with more accessible product training and new ways to increase our margins. EMC listens to its partners and has made a lot of aggressive changes based on this feedback. We're definitely seeing the affects of these changes in our day to day business. In fact, I'm pleased to say that we're growing faster than ever."
"It's not surprising that EMC swept the Enterprise, SMB, and Backup & Recovery categories," said Andy Cadwell, Senior Vice President of Sales and Field Operations, INX, Inc., an EMC Velocity Partner and a leading U.S. provider of IP communications and data center solutions for enterprise, public sector and healthcare organizations. "EMC continues to offer the broadest product portfolio supporting the most cohesive data center value proposition for our customers. The company has proven themselves to be committed to investing in a strong channel program and we find it quite easy to do business with EMC."

"When it comes to the strength of relationships, quality of products, and return on partner programs, solution providers want to hear from their fellow VARs about the IT vendors that consistently exceed expectations," said Kelley Damore, vice president, editorial director, Everything Channel. "The Annual Report Card gives solution providers the opportunity to share feedback and recognize the vendors who truly demonstrate channel excellence. We congratulate EMC for being recognized for its first time inclusion and win in the SMB Network Storage category and its fifth straight win in the Enterprise Network Storage and Backup & Recovery Software categories."
"This tremendous honor from CRN is proof that the enhancements we have made to our channel program are adding real value for our partners," said Gregg Ambulos, EMC's Senior Vice President of Global Channel Sales. Quantum and Cloud Caboodle launch an all new DXi8500 De-Dupe Appliance with higher capacity and low power usage - August 8, 2012

Jacksonville, Florida -- Quantum Corp. has increased the storage density and power savings in its DXi8500 appliances, creating an efficient disk backup and deduplication solution for enterprise customers. It now incorporates 3TB disk drives to deliver 50% greater storage density, 42% more power savings and 25% higher performance. In addition, it encrypts data at rest without impacting performance, just one of several data security enhancements Quantum also announced. Taken together, the DXi8500 updates and security enhancements are designed to help customers improve data protection efficiencies while meeting increasingly demanding SLAs and security needs.

Storage Efficiency in the Enterprise
A DXi8500 with 3TB disk drives now provides up to 330TB usable capacity in a single 19-inch rack. The larger capacity drives enable up to 11TB/hour in performance and reduce power consumption from 7000 kWh to approximately 4000 kWh for 330TB. Starting at half the price of the leading competitive offering while providing twice the usable capacity, the DXi8500 is an efficient enterprise backup and deduplication appliance.

Encryption of Data-at-Rest with No Performance Degradation
Quantum provides encryption for data-at-rest via the new 3TB Self Encrypting Drives (SED) and Full Disk Encryption (FDE) drives, protecting against a data breach resulting from physically removing a drive from the DXi8500. The encryption-at-rest feature utilises an AES 256-bit algorithm, with encryption keys stored in the system.

Hardware-based approach to encryption ensures that customers do not suffer performance impact as a result of enhanced security.
End-to-End Data Security Software Capabilities DXi Accent software now encrypts data-in-transit using an AES 256-bit encryption algorithm. Encryption of data-in-transit enables customers to more securely leverage DXi Accent's abilities to reduce network bandwidth usage by deduplicating data on the host prior to sending it to the target. DXi 2.2 software includes a new Secure File Shred feature, which provides a form of space reclamation that enables customers to securely delete specific backup files from a DXi appliance. The feature is suited to customers in financial, healthcare and government organisations adapting to regulations mandating that sensitive data be securely deleted.

All Scalar libraries now support the Key Management interoperability Protocol (KMIP) open standard for centralised encryption key management, with SafeNet KeySecure key manager
certification. "Keeping data secure from creation to deletion has never been more challenging or more important to our customers," noted Brian McCarthy, CTO, Cloud Caboodle. "Federal government customers have particularly stringent security requirements, and we think the Secure File Shred feature will be very appealing to them."

"Organisations of all sizes are concerned with optimizing performance and improving efficiency at all price points," noted Russell Fellows, senior partner, Evaluator Group. "Quantum's enhancements to their DXi8500 platform address these concerns by increasing capacity and density, reducing required power and cooling while also improving performance. With Quantum's enhancements and 3TB drives, the DXi8500 helps enterprises meet increasingly difficult data protection needs with tight budgets."

"Our customers increasingly want to keep more data for longer periods, and they have to keep it secure and manage it at a lower cost throughout the data lifecycle," said Robert Clark, SVP, Data Protection Group, Quantum. "They need to accomplish this while meeting increasingly demanding SLAs. Our goal is
to provide the tools customers need to adapt to this changing environment with certainty."
